"Gas Budget Prototype" MUST READ

Many of you may wonder how and what to do with the money you save on Hypermiling.  Even though integrating 3 mpg - 6 mpg saved due to great hypermiling skills, you may be surprised that it is a slight bit tricky to "see the money in your pocket".  This is a prototype, but i hope this will help put that money saved at the pump in your budget.

2 things:  1.  I am heavily influenced by approaches of Dave Ramsey towards budgeting.  Google him if you need help with these ideas.  It's really a great system.
2.  FORTUNATELY due to gas being low at the time of writing ($2.39 in my hometown) i am analyzing a Scenario 1 and Scenario 2.  Scenario 1 is where we are now.  Hypermiling is important but not as important as when gas is $4 a gallon or more.  Scenario 1 looks at what i call my "threshold" of pain before the price is up there.  that threshold is for now at $2.87  Since 2.87-2.39 = 48 cents, it is nice to be below that threshold of pain, and that means you can "save" about 48 cents/gallon.  More to come on budgeting, but an easy way to use that 48 cents is to put it into your savings account.

SCENARIO 1:  Price of Gas:  $2.39
Money saved below threshold (which is $2.87) 48 cents/gallon

est 15 gallons of gas used per month means $7.20 / month saved due to "wonderfulness of being below threshold".

SCENARIO 2:  Hypermiling replaces threshold bonus
Price of Gas:  $4.00
Money saved below threshold ($2.87) is ZERO
Money saved hypermiling 3 mpg up to 6 mpg bonus = 4.4cents/gallon - 8.8cents/gallon

est 15 gallons of gas used per month means 66 cents- $1. 36  saved per month, no "wonderfullness" but due to Hypermiling techniques.

I compute the hypermiling bonus based on getting 27mpg avg. before hypermiling, then adding 3 mpg-6mpg is a 1.1-2.2% increase.

BUT MAD MAX, what if i'm in the middle?

The easy answer, is that you can compute a medium range, then "adjust to taste".
7.20 /month + $1.10/month = 8.30  / 2 = $4.15/month saved, right around $3/gallon.

At any rate, saving $4 a month EXTRA based on what you already save monthly, AND I EMPHASIZE! based on DAVE RAMSEY PRINCIPLES, really adds up.

Conclusion:  saving money at the pump is a great way to realistically add savings to your monthly budget.

Driving sore

If you are driving while moving a friend from apartment to apartment, almost everyone gets sore.

What is great is that usually driving can be more relaxing.

I think it's good when you are sore to consider adjusting your steering wheel.  Mainly you want to be supporting your lower back and arms, and not having a posture that is leaning forward.  That posture can encourage speeding up, and of course, we don't like driving past the speed limit.

SURREAL CHALLENGE! I MAKE AN HYPERMILING POST IN under 5 minutes!

Hi!  as we speak i have a timer going, to see if i can post about hypermiling in under 5 minutes!  a few key things come to mind:

1.  You can hypermiler ANY car
2.  Aim to increase by 3mpg
3.  The "dream" of "free" gasoline.

"free" gasoline is unlikely, but just imagine getting your tank to run twice as "well" as normal.  Using my tips, and the tips of some of my friends like "The Flamboyant Introvert" will help!

okay, did i make the timer?

oh! i did, i have 3 minutes to spare!

neat.  This was an experiment mainly to see what i could write with a time deadline over my head.

Lots of good information for professional truck drivers HERE!  SO GREAT>  literally it's too good of an article, just the way that "citizen kane" for movie buffs is too good to watch!  no lie!

NEXT UP! BACK TO SCHOOL JITTERS! CRAZY MAD TEXTERS!

Back -to-school season is just around the corner!  I'm quite sure you didn't want to know that, but i have an important reason to remind you:::

drive safely!

Going to Walmart/Target/supermarket with kids is a drain on hypermiling and road safety IF YOU ARE NOT PREPARED!

It's pretty well known that you shouldn't text and drive.  DON:T TEXT and DRIVE!

But please tell your kids the same thing.  The double whammy of back-to-school shopping and texting while driving can cause accidents

unfortunately, i've seen MANY accidents, and hope and pray to not see more in my hometown (of course i wasn't involved because I am a hypermiler = I am attentive to the road and my gas mileage at all times.)

P.S.  you have a "cheat" in August!

it's much more important to drive safe than it is to achieve proper gas mileage!

Fortunately, you can do both, but i'm just saying, IF you are in a high traffic zone, especially walmart parking lots like i was in "insert big city" USA this past 4th of July, driving safely > Hypermiling.

In September, you can do both hypermiling and safe driving.  BUT August is all about safe driving!

All I'm asking...

Is for a little respect!

Just a little bit.

Respect the road.

Respect the people on the road.

Respect that if you love to speed, there is still a "small voice" telling you that there are more fun ways to have than unsafe driving

Happy 4th!  and Happy Canada Day!  Go Maple Leafs! /^^\

Summer driving

Two things every Hypermiler should be aware of are generally the same things "normal" drivers are aware of.  with a twist... you don't have to worry NEARLY as much as normal drivers.

What normal drivers do:  AH FUCK the construction is on my commute road again these F**kers blah blah blah.  (as if you thought this summer was going to have less construction than before).

What Hypermilers think:  While this is a nuisance, i feel much less pressure to drive over the speed limit.  As long as there are not too many stop signs added, I should be able to maintain my mileage, this may even be a good thing.

Summer Police!

What the normal driver thinks:  F*** that speed trap caught me again! I can't believe i got caught YET another time in the EXACT same speed trap!  Man, i wish i knew more about hypermiling!  This $100 speeding ticket is going to affect my mortgage payment!  etc. etc.

What the hypermiler thinks:  Well, when i was young i drove like a banshee.  Now i am not only safer, i don't even have the slightest to worry about in this speed trap.  Police generally don't pull people that drive just-a-little under the speed limit.  And that's me.  "Grandma driver".  We'll see who laughs last gas guzzling speeders!

SOOO

Which one are you?

heh heh /^^\

enjoy your $100 hypermilers!

oh GAWD where is the hype!!!???

Mad Max was amazing.

but everyone is more on board with Jurassic Park.

aside from explanations on how to hypermile a motorcycle.....

WHAT DO I DO NOW?  if motivation is LOW to hypermile!

1.  Remember, you can hypermile with ANY CAR!!!

we say "hypermile" but the actual goal for most drivers is to increase efficiency by 3 mpg.  This is usually done by checking what your MPG is when you fill.  Most people can think of the simple solutions to getting better mileage, such as a) reducing weight in the car and b) not driving fast and c) which is related, drive the speed limit, but not past it.

2.  Keep reading the blog.  Hypermiling in its truest sense is your response to saving the environment!

3.  Another great place to start that i have learned from another blog is "bicycle day".  use a bicycle once a week, or public transportation at least once a week.  This is a very dramatic way, though it seems small, to reduce your carbon footprint.

the best one, or at least a tie, with Fury Road!  HYPERMILE!! thanks

When Gasoline is a life or death decision....

Yo bro Jon here.  One of my favorite movies is Mad Max.  .....well, maybe that may change to the Road Warrior, or even Fury Road, but the point is,  THIS SCENARIO COULD HAPPEN!  I'm sure everyone of us has that friend that has talked about the emergence of oil embargos dealing with $7.15 gas at the pump.  What would you do if you had to choose between gas and food?  Gas of course ( lol) but seriously, it's best to be prepared.

Did you know that you can increase your gas mileage easily by 3mpg and likely up to 10 mpg?  Use my tips, and the tips from the internet.!  more to come.

I post small tidbits because I want you to be able to master hypermiling!  There are loads, or well, at least 10 tips if not more on how to drive to conserve gas!  Be like Max!   Save the world!

okay Jon, so what are the tips!

catch a drift from a semi by driving close to it....

1.  DRIVE SLOW!  Your grandmother was "right on the money"!
2.  Do not exceed the speed limit!  This is actually the best savings, because many Americans get 1-2 speeding tickets every year!  No speeding tickets, more savings!  More gas you can buy! and food! in the Post-apocalyptic world!
3.  coasting.  If you have hills, you CAN put the car in neutral and coast.  WARNING:  do not attempt in high traffic areas.  YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
4.  Common sense.  Cell phone/wifi in cars may be great for that social network to OOGLE AT YOU THROUGH YOUR CAMERA and collect information for the NSA to sell you more and more things.  NOT INTERESTED!???  DERP!!! then focus on the road!  = you save money.

More to come!  fasten your seatbelts, we are in for a slow ride!  Grandmother wins! /^^|
